Bangor University offers an experience unlike any other. Based between the mountains and the sea in North Wales, our campus is surrounded by a breathtaking natural landscape. As a university that provides strong support for research activities, there are several subject related specialist resources such as a research vessel, MRI Scanner, climatic chamber, Natural History Museum and Botanical Gardens. You too can be a part of impactful research at Bangor with the university being renowned for research into industries like accounting, electronic engineering, sports science and psychology. In fact, the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF, 2021) recognised 85% of Bangor’s research as being either world leading or internationally excellent.
Student Life
Bangor’s size and friendly nature mean it is easy to get to know people, and students tend to settle in quickly.
Much of the social calendar focuses on the Student’s Union with over 150 clubs and societies to choose from. There is plenty to do in Bangor with bars, cafes and shops in the city centre and lots of activities on our doorstep for those seeking adventure. Students living in halls can join in with Campus Life events, designed to help you settle in and make friends. From yoga to open mic nights, there are a range of events taking place throughout the year.
University Facilities
The university has an impressive range of learning resources and facilities, including an extensive collection of books and journals; over 1000 computers for student use, several 24-hour access PC rooms, social learning spaces, its own research vessel ‘Prince Madog’, state of the art science labs and an fMRI Scanner. You can visit the Bangor University Natural History Museum or the Treborth Botanic Gardens where some students also choose to volunteer.
Canolfan Brailsford, the university's sport and leisure centre is a hub for sports lovers, housing two main sports halls, three well-equipped gyms, a multi-route climbing wall and a range of impressive outdoor facilities.
Scholarships and Bursaries
As you would expect from a university that places great emphasis on student support, Bangor is keen to offer extra help to students. Bangor University offers a range of bursaries and scholarships to new and returning students. Scholarships, Studentships and Bursaries are funded by both the university and individual academic schools. Student Support
A university that cares - from Welcome Week onwards, you will be given as much help and support as possible with health and welfare matters as well as your academic work. Each student is given a Personal Tutor at Bangor, an academic member of staff who you can turn to throughout your time at university.
Accommodation
There are dedicated Halls of Residence for Postgraduate students at Bangor where you will be placed with other Postgraduate students. You will have the choice of two residential villages situated either side of the main university buildings with room options including standard, ensuite, studios and townhouses.
