Bangor Business School offers a full range of disciplines from undergraduate to doctoral level. It is currently ranked amongst the top 25 institutions in the world for research in the field of Banking (RePEc, as of October 2018), and within the top 25% of UK business schools for research (REF 2014 research "intensity" index).
Gold Standard Teaching
Bangor University has achieved a Gold Award, the highest rating possible, in the national Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), which means our teaching is of the highest quality found in the UK.
Students are attracted by its reputation for high quality and expertise, particularly in the area of Banking and Financial Services, in which Bangor has an international name for excellence. Its lecturing staff are active researchers who have undertaken policy and consultancy work for organisations including the European Commission, the World Bank, the IMF and the UK Treasury, amongst others, with the products of this research fed into the teaching to deliver a curriculum which is contemporary and industry-focussed. Staff research papers and articles are published regularly in leading journals, and their books published to a worldwide audience.
The School has an impressive track record in producing highly skilled and highly employable postgraduates, with the broad range of abilities that employers require from new recruits. Bangor alumni have held senior positions in public and private organisations worldwide, from Deutsche Bank and No. 10 Downing Street to Accenture Luxembourg and the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority.

Bangor Business School’s excellent record in postgraduate teaching is reflected in the innovative nature of the degree programmes, and the performance of students at Masters and PhD levels. Bangor Business School established the first MA in Banking and Finance offered by any UK university in 1973, and more recently was the first to offer MBAs in Banking and Finance and Islamic Banking and Finance.
Postgraduate students can choose between several types of higher degree programmes and subjects. These include taught MSc, MA and MBA degrees in the fields of Accounting, Banking, Finance, Islamic Banking and Finance, Business, Management, Marketing, Consumer Psychology, Computer Science, Environmental Science and Law. The School also runs a highly successful programme for students who wish to study towards an MSc in Research Methodology, MPhil or PhD. Our PhD programme is recognised by the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) for excellence in social science training.

Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) pathway
Many of Bangor Business School’s Masters programmes offer the opportunity to follow the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) specialist pathway alongside the degree, through which students can acquire the skills to complete the CFA Level 1 examination. The CFA has become the most respected and recognised professional qualification in finance in the world.
Chartered Management Institute (CMI) accreditation
The School’s Masters programmes in Business, Management and Marketing is accredited by the CMI – the only chartered professional body in the UK dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership excellence. This means that graduates of these programmes will attain a dual award – a Bangor University Masters, and a CMI Level 7 qualification in Strategic Management and Leadership.
The School’s Trading Floor at Bangor Business School utilises simulation software and real-time financial databases, providing the opportunity to embed trading into teaching and learning where appropriate. The Trading Floor will provide first-hand experience of utilising industry standard tools, which will help in acquiring practical skills for the workplace.

Most of Bangor Business School’s MA, MSc and MBA programmes offer a January intake as well as the traditional September start date.
