University of Kent

University of Kent

Kent, a top 20 research university, provides a dynamic and challenging academic environment informed by an international perspective and collaboration with top ranked universities around the world. Our global partnerships provide the foundation for our international approach to research and teaching. Our £9 million postgraduate scholarship fund allows us to support excellence and we have an enviable record for graduate employment.

Kent is known as the UK’s European university with campuses in the UK and specialist postgraduate centres in Brussels, Paris, Athens and Rome where studies are underpinned by the specialist resources of each location. In addition to these centres, we have a large number of academic partnerships across Europe, Asia and the United States; some of these programmes offer dual UK and European qualifications, as well as jointly supervised PhD awards.

Postgraduate programmes
We offer a range of taught programmes and research opportunities including External PhDs, distance learning and short courses across the arts and humanities, social sciences, medical studies, and science and technology.

£9m Postgraduate Scholarship Fund
Funding includes a generous number of taught and research student scholarships, from fees-only awards to full scholarships which cover tuition fees at the home rate and maintenance grants. In addition, there is location-specific funding, sport and music scholarships, and funding specifically for students who pay overseas fees. We also have a Graduate Teaching Assistantship scheme whereby postgraduate research students receive financial support in return for teaching. The majority of Kent’s programmes, including split-site options in Brussels, Paris and Rome, are eligible for the £10,280 Postgraduate Loan Scheme.

Full details of all studentships, research councils and other sources of funding can be found on our dedicated postgraduate scholarships page and include:

Superb locations
The University of Kent has six exceptional study locations: the UK campuses in Canterbury and Medway and specialist postgraduate centres in Brussels, Paris, Athens and Rome. Canterbury and Medway are close to London with easy access by road and high-speed train and there are fast travel links to mainland Europe, including Paris and Brussels, by air, Eurostar or ferry. In addition we run postgraduate taster courses in the humanities and social sciences at our centre in Tonbridge.

Founded in 1965, it is Kent's original site and is built on 300 acres of parkland overlooking the historic city centre. Modern buildings are surrounded by open green spaces, courtyards, gardens, ponds and woodland.

Kent has a multimillion-pound campus with fabulous, state-of-the-art, buildings and facilities, including some on the Historic Dockyard, Chatham which dates back to the 1700s. Medway is only 40 minutes from London St Pancras and easily accessible by road and excellent public transport links.

Our European postgraduate centres offer programmes which exploit the specific historical, social, political and cultural resources available in these exceptional cities.

Kent is the only UK university to have a postgraduate centre in ‘the capital of Europe’, home to major international organisations such as the EU and NATO and offers postgraduate programmes taught by world-leading academics and experienced practitioners.

Spending either a full year or a term studying in the heart of this beautiful and historic city, teaching is enhanced by your immersion in a leading centre for European culture. Reid Hall provides modern study and support facilities within 18th-century buildings in a historic corner of Montparnasse, with easy access to the city’s resources.

Kent’s dual-award MA in Heritage Management, combining archaeology and business is taught in partnership with the Athens University of Economics and Business in Eleusina, – one of most important archaeological religious sites in the world.

Kent’s centre in Rome combines our specialist teaching and research in classical and archaeological studies with the facilities of the American University of Rome and the cultural and learning opportunities the city offers.
