Our PGCE Primary (QTS) programme ensures your professional growth, guiding you to make informed teaching decisions. Complete the course to pursue a part-time Masters in Teaching Studies.
Once you have enrolled on the PGCE primary course, you can opt to specialise in working with 3-7 year olds or 5-11 year olds or 7-11 year olds. Students on the 3-7 specialism will undertake two placements, in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. Students on the 5-11 specialism will undertake two placements, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Students on the 7-11 specialism will undertake two placements, Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2.
Course highlights We excel in teacher education by combining theoretical knowledge and practical experience in our PGCE Primary programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This programme offers 80 credits towards further study, allowing graduates to pursue a Master's degree such as the MA in Teaching Studies. The integration of academic rigour and hands-on practice, along with the opportunity for advanced qualifications, makes the University of Birmingham a leader in teacher education.
