Summary

If you are a clinician, a senior nurse or an allied health professional working in critical care, this programme is designed to give you a thorough grounding in critical care medicine, together with the tools to maintain your knowledge over a course of advanced, specialist instruction. We aim to ensure that you acquire the theoretical understanding and skills to advance and promote knowledge in this specialty and develop your leadership skills. This programme will: Provide advanced theoretical and practical teaching that covers a broad range of key topics related to the management of the critically ill or injured patient Develop the skills, knowledge and confidence so that you can lead the provision of the highest standards of critical care Develop and demonstrate your competence in a critical appraisal of research and your skills in conducting robust clinical audit. Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry is comprised of two world renowned teaching hospitals, St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London, which have made, and continue to make, an outstanding contribution to modern medicine. Critical care is based at the William Harvey Research Institute, a vibrant, fully integrated pharmacological institute amongst the top 20 in the world. We lead cutting-edge translational discovery science and experimental medicine research, and high calibre educational programmes. You will receive advanced, specialist instruction from a faculty of world leading intensivists. We have modern state-of-the-art buildings alongside more traditional facilities such as our fantastic library. The modular nature of the programme is designed to fit in with your full-time employment. Facilities The Learning Resource centre has 200 networked PCs and is open to students round the clock, there are dedicated workstations for postgraduate students. You will also have access to Queen Mary’s comprehensive libraries, including the Postgraduate Reading Room, and The British Library can also be accessed as a research resource. You will have access to a range of specialist facilities including: medical libraries located at the Royal London and St Bart's hospitals and at the main College campus at Mile End. Specialist resources at the William Harvey Research Institute include: Five fully equipped, state-of-the-art research laboratories Flow cytometry Imaging facilities
