Top ranked university
Queen Mary University of London is a world-leading provider of medical education, ranked in the world’s top 100 for life sciences and medicine, and eighth in the world for research citations in medicine (citations per paper) (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026).
Queen Mary’s Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry is at the forefront of medical education and research. We have a long, proud and distinctive history stretching back to 1785 with the establishment of England’s first medical school, The London Hospital Medical College, to improve the health of east London’s inhabitants. Together with St Bartholomew’s Medical College, founded in 1843 to help those living in the City of London, these two historic institutions are the bedrock of Queen Mary’s Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Today, we continue to make a real impact on health-related challenges for the benefit of local and global populations while providing the best in modern medical training.
The Faculty now has more than 3,100 undergraduate students, 1,285 postgraduate taught students and 535 postgraduate research students studying at our London campuses, with a further 770 distance learning students, and 285 studying overseas. We have more than 830 international students, the majority of which are studying postgraduate degrees.
We offer a range of scholarships for international students, worth £5,000 - £10,000 and other funding opportunities for high achieving graduates that can make a valuable contribution to the university.

Precision Musculoskeletal Sciences programmes
Designed for graduates in biomedical sciences, medicine or allied health subjects, our Precision Musculoskeletal Sciences MSc or Postgraduate Diploma provides a comprehensive grounding in musculoskeletal (MSK) health, equipping you with the knowledge and skills to address one of the most significant and growing areas of unmet need in global healthcare.
Millions in the UK and billions worldwide suffer from MSK disorders which are the leading contributors to disability and the most prevalent conditions affecting middle-aged people. The fast-evolving landscape of MSK sciences and healthcare has a pressing need for clinicians, biomedical scientists and allied health professionals with up-to-date knowledge and skills to contribute to the establishment of productive MSK health.
With a focus on precision medicine, the programme enables you to align your studies with your interests and future career aspirations in clinical practice, research, or healthcare innovation. You can also choose to take the shorter Postgraduate Certificate, studying the first four modules to gain an introduction to the subject.
Featuring research-informed teaching delivered by leading experts, you’ll explore the latest advancements in MSK sciences, including cutting-edge technologies and innovative clinical trials. You’ll develop both theoretical understanding and practical expertise, preparing you to contribute to improved diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes in a rapidly evolving field. You will also undertake a structured clinical observership involving close interaction with the clinical team, discussion of the patients' presentations and investigations, as well as the management approaches to each case.
This programme is delivered by the Centre for Experimental Medicine and Rheumatology (EMR) within the William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI), part of the Queen Mary University of London’s Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. The Centre is one of the top research centres for rheumatology in Europe and has been awarded Centre of Excellence status by the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR).
