Queen Mary University of London

Queen Mary University London Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is one of the world’s leading universities – the Times Higher Education put us in the top 100 universities in the world (98th in the world and 16th in the UK). With a distinguished history dating back to 1123 (the foundation of St Bartholomew’s Hospital), QMUL is now one of the UK’s leading research-led universities – in the most recent national assessment of research quality, we were placed 9th in the UK (REF 2014) among multi-faculty universities. This means that the teaching on our programmes is directly inspired by the world-leading research of our academics.

Campus in the heart of the city
We are based on a beautiful self-contained residential campus in east London along with further campuses in the City and central London. No other university can offer the benefits of a campus university experience in the heart of the capital city.

Set beside the Regent’s Canal in Mile End, our main campus is within walking distance of the Olympic Park, Brick Lane and Shoreditch, and close to London’s financial centres, the City and Canary Wharf.

We have spent more than £142million on new facilities in the past five years. This includes 7,700 square metres of new learning and teaching space with the new £39million Graduate Centre opening in 2016.

An international university
We currently have more than 20,000 students, of whom about one third are from overseas. With students and staff from more than 150 countries, this makes for a truly cosmopolitan environment that is welcoming to students from all over the world. In fact, we were named as “one of the world’s 20 most international universities” in Times Higher Education (2015).

Postgraduate study opportunities
QMUL offers more than 200 masters and PhD degrees across humanities and social sciences, medicine and dentistry, science and engineering, and our newly launched life sciences institute. Most of our postgraduate programmes are available to study full-time or part-time at our London campuses, and an increasing number can be studied online via distance learning. From our centres in Paris (France) and Piraeus (Greece), we also offer postgraduate law degrees, and from 2016, students can also choose to study postgraduate law in Singapore, and international relations masters in Paris.

Scholarships and studentships
We award more than £9million per year in postgraduate funding. This includes a significant package of competitive scholarships in a range of subject areas for masters students, and Postgraduate Research studentships for PhD students.

Graduate prospects
We are a Russell Group university and part of the internationally recognised University of London. In today’s competitive job market a degree from a top university like us is more important than ever and is highly valued by employers. Our postgraduates have an average salary of £34,515 once they have completed their course and can benefit from dedicated advice and support from our careers and enterprise team.

Open events
The best way to get a feel for QMUL life is to join us for one of our postgraduate open evenings. You can explore our campus, meet our tutors and students, and get a taste of what studying here will be like. If you are unable to visit in person we run virtual open events, where you can speak online to current staff and students.
