About the IOE

Teacher Training
We offer PGCEs in Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Further Education. Our unique gradual approach, carefully chosen placements and the constant support from our lecturers, tutors and school mentors will allow you to start teaching in just one year.
Our programmes have been carefully designed so that you have the time and space to develop the expertise to manage, guide and inspire the children and young people you teach. Every IOE PGCE student is supported by a personal tutor who shares your passion for your subject and phase. They visit you on your teaching placements and meet in person with you throughout the year. You will also have a mentor to support you through each of your placements.
Graduate taught programmes
IOE offers a collaborative and insightful space in which to examine society, explore your passions, and challenge and re-examine ideas of knowledge, power, education and truth. Our most important collaborators are our students. New ideas, and new research, are given meaning through your real-life experiences.
We offer an extensive range of graduate programmes across Applied Linguistics, Digital Media, Education, Leadership and Management, International Development and Education, Psychology, Social Science and Social Policy and Special and Inclusive Education. Our graduates go on to influence future generations for the better, from individual lives to societal change.
Graduate research programmes
IOE is an outstanding place to conduct postgraduate research, with a wide range of doctoral programmes. Our research has two main aims:
- to address fundamental questions that have a bearing on all members of society
- to raise the standard of educational research.
