Top 10 Occupational Therapy Degree Courses In The UK & Europe

Occupational Therapy Top 10In the UK and Europe there are two types of postgraduate qualifications for Occupational Therapists.

Occupational Therapy Course Search

One is a masters program that takes two years and begins the process of becoming a qualified OT, and is designed for those who have already undertaken an undergraduate degree in another field. The second is aimed at already qualified OTs to further specialise their skills and tends to be a one-year full-time course or a two-year part-time program.

This article looks at the one-year OT courses designed to help the student specialise as an OT. These Masters in Occupational Therapy are all designed for practising Occupational Therapists. This means that most of these courses can be studied on a part-time basis, but some are not suitable for those working outside of the UK or the EU. If you are currently working in the UK for the NHS, then you may find your NHS trust will fund your studies.

MSc in Occupational Therapy – Trinity College Dublin

Cost: €5,873 total cost for Irish and EU students; €12,038 total cost for international students. 
What You Will Study: This course is studied on a part-time basis and takes two years to complete. In the first year, students cover modules such as Research Methods in Occupational Therapy and Advancing Occupational Therapy Theory. In the second year students complete a dissertation. 

MSc in Occupational Therapy – Cardiff University

Cost: £6,950 total cost for UK and EU students; £19,950 total cost for international students. 
What You Will Study: This course takes eighteen months to complete on a full-time basis or four years on a part-time basis. Modules include Ethics in Health and Social Care, Clinical Kinesiology and Tissue Pathology, and Global Public Health.

MSc in Advanced Professional Practice in Occupational Therapy – University of Plymouth

Cost: £6,750 total cost for UK and EU students; £13,250 total cost for international students. 
What You Will Study: Students can take one year to complete this course at the University of Plymouth on a full-time basis or up to five years on a flexible part-time basis. Modules include Clinical Assessment and Management in Neurology and Enhancing Practice in Chronic Pulmonary Conditions.

MSc in Advanced Practice in Healthcare – University of Liverpool

Cost: £7,500 total cost for UK and EU students. The course is not open to international students. 
What You Will Study: This course is aimed at different types of Healthcare Professionals such as Occupational Therapists and the course can be tailored to concentrate on the future plans of the student. It is undertaken on a part-time basis in three to six years. 

MSc in Neurological Occupational Therapy – Coventry University

Cost: £11,600 total cost for UK and EU students. This course is not available for international students. 
What You Will Study: This program at Coventry University can be completed in one year on a full-time basis or on a part-time basis in two years. Modules include The Neural Control of Human Behaviour and The Principles of Neuro-rehabilitation.

MSc in Rehabilitation – University of the West of England Bristol

Cost: £8,500 total cost for UK and EU students; £14,500 total cost for international students. 
What You Will Study: This course takes two years on a part-time basis to complete and focuses on global rehabilitation issues. Modules include Neuro-rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation and Health Economics.

MSc in Advanced Occupational Therapy – University of Salford

Cost: £2,280 per year for all students. 
What You Will Study: This course at the University of Salford is taught entirely online and takes three years on a part-time basis. Modules include Philosophical and Theoretical Base of Occupational Therapy and Support to Live with and Beyond Cancer. 

MSc in Advanced Occupational Therapy – University of Northampton

Cost: £6,625 total cost for UK and EU students; £12,200 total cost for international students. 
What You Will Study: This course at the University of Northampton can be studied on a full-time basis for one year or completed in two years on a part-time basis. Modules include topics such as Rehab and Recovery and Leading People in Health and Social Care Organisations.

MSc in Advanced Occupational Therapy – University of Derby

Cost: £6,300 total cost for UK and EU students. The course at the University of Derby is not designed for international students. 
What You Will Study: This course is entirely distance learning on a part-time basis and can take two to six years to complete. There are opportunities to come to the campus for modules if students wish to.

European Master of Science in Occupational Therapy – Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences

Cost: €2,006 for EU students; the tuition fees for international students depend on your host university that you are based in and your home country.
What You Will Study: This is a course offered in conjunction with a number of other European institutions. Students are based at one university, known as the host university, then move around the group of universities offering the course that year for blocks of two weeks to gain a full European perspective of Occupational Therapy. All classes are conducted in English. The course is aimed at those who are working in the EU and takes one year on a full-time basis.
