Reasons To Study Your PG Program In Croatia

Study in CroatiaWith a varied climate and a coastline along the Mediterranean, Croatia is a wonderful place for postgraduate study.

Croatia Course Search

There are only a small number of international students going each year to Croatia for a university level education, but if you join them you'll find a wonderful country full of welcoming people.

Here are some of the reasons why you should choose Croatia for your postgraduate studies.

Outstanding Academics

For European students, Croatia has a familiar set of undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level courses. At the postgraduate level, there are plenty of courses in English including subjects such as Game Development or Software Design. Some universities in Croatia, such as Algebra University, teach all of their postgraduate courses in English and others, such as the University of Zagreb, teach a large number of postgraduate courses from Medicine to Business Studies and Economics in English.

Fascinating History

If you are interested in history for study or as an extra-curricular activity, then Croatia has plenty for you to see and learn about. The University of Zagreb was established in 1669 and higher education has had a long tradition in Croatia. More recent historical events in Croatia make it a great place to study subjects like International Relations.

Great Climate

The mountainous region of Croatia allows for skiing and winter sports during the colder months of the year and the beaches on the coastline have a wonderful Southern European climate. This means that temperatures can vary between -5°C to 26°C from winter to summer across the country. This variation means that if you are spending a full year in Croatia you will get a taste of some excellent weather in every season.

Language Skills

If you want to brush up on your Croatian language skills, then you can study a huge array of subjects in Croatian. Around half of the population of Croatia can speak English and by studying postgraduate courses in Croatia in English means that international students can learn more than one language at once. Learning a language is a great way to gain an understanding of the people you are sharing your new home with and will help you in the future if you ever need to learn another language.

Cultural Exchange

Building your CV and preparing your network of contacts for an international career are two great reasons to study abroad in any country. Taking the time to learn how another culture views itself and the rest of the world will give you skills that will help with any globally based career path as well as growing and developing on a personal basis as well.

Tuition Fees

For students from other EU countries, the tuition fees charged in Croatia are very favourable compared within the EU. International students from outside of the EU students are often only charged only the standard tuition fees with no additional fees payable. For home and EU students, tuition fees range from around €800 to €3,000 per year.

PLEASE NOTE: As a result of Brexit, from Autumn 2021 postgraduate students from the European Union studying at a UK university will be charged the same tuition fees as international students. UK students studying their postgraduate course at a European university are also likely to incur higher tuition fees than their EU counterparts. It is advisable to check with the individual universities in the UK and Europe for up-to-date information on tuition fees for all postgraduate programs.

Good day,

Does Croatia give work and study opportunities for South African nationals? Id like to do a program in Counselling Psychology and what are the requirements?

Charlotte March 1, 2019, 8:49 a.m.

Unfortunately none of the universities in Croatia currently offer a Masters in Counselling Psychology - however there are a few good options in this field at UK universities and elsewhere in Europe. Use this link to find out more >

However there may be some good options taught in Croatian if that's an option for you - in which case I recommend you research the individual universities in Croatia online and see what they have on offer.
Good luck.
