Summary
MA Innovation Management is a practice-based course in which you will learn how to enable innovation within a variety of different contexts, such as creative, business or cultural organisations. Through learning which blends theory and practice, you will develop the skills to operate in complex working environments. This course is part of the Culture and Enterprise programme.
This course at Central Saint Martins is one of the first to locate innovation management in an arts and design college. Innovation management is a well-known field in business and management studies. Traditionally, it addresses how processes – especially those dealing with the production of new goods or services – can be measured, promoted and used to an organisation’s advantage. This course considers innovation management more broadly, across a wider range of concerns including the social, the sustainable, the cultural and the creative.
MA Innovation Management will develop your understanding of the discourses and practices which influence innovation management, while also providing you with the necessary skills for critical engagement. You will work collaboratively as well as independently. You will be required to explore and experiment and to map and plan. Working theoretically and practically, you will identify and mediate across the many and diverse boundaries that intersect on the course.
The course highlights complexity, criticality and creativity. It engages with a range of other disciplines – notably, philosophy, sociology and anthropology – to enhance its examination of innovation and management, design and business. The course team is made up of experienced creative practitioners, business consultants, researchers, writers and educators. They will support your learning as an individual and as part of a team, so you can convey your own critical position.
About Central Saint Martins
Central Saint Martins is a world-renowned arts and design college which brings together a diverse range of creative practices under one roof. It is known for breaking new ground and asking difficult questions. Across nine programmes of study, the College champions the power of imagination, curiosity, diligence, ambition and risk-taking. It challenges the cores of its disciplines, encouraging collision and exchange across boundaries to create unexpected outcomes. It aspires to give students the confidence to unearth ideas and formations that might provoke and disturb accepted norms. The Central Saint Martins community is dedicated to constantly discovering new ways of thinking, making and doing.
Situated in King’s Cross, Central Saint Martins sits at the heart of a dynamic part of London: Google, The Guardian, Tom Dixon, Universal Music, Camden Council and many others are both neighbours and partners. Students are empowered by the College’s world-class teaching, technical and support staff as well as inspired by their individual practices and industry experience.
Central Saint Martins is often recognised for its academic excellence. In 2017, the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design was awarded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and the College was named best provider of both undergraduate and postgraduate fashion education in the Business of Fashion’s Global Fashion School Rankings in 2016 and 2017 consecutively.
