Summary
The MSc in Historical Studies is a taught postgraduate Masters degree designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to progress in a range of careers and professions. It provides training in advanced research and communication skills while enabling you to develop your expertise in the key historical events, processes and issues about which you want to know more.
Small class sizes are intended to provide experiences tailored to your interests and ambitions which ensure plenty of time working with the experts. The balance between training and historical study means you engage in upskilling for your future together with discovering more about the past.
A History Masters prepares you for careers in business, government, the creative industries, education, finance, and the STEM sectors.
In 2025, the AHRC recognised the strengths of the postgraduate teaching and training environment in the Department of Humanities at Strathclyde with a Doctoral Landscape Award. This £1.5 million investment will provide a pathway for MSc Historical Studies students into PhD study.
