A leading centre of postgraduate teaching and research, the School of Geography has internationally recognised strengths across the discipline.
Our PhD programme enables you to conduct original research across a wide range of geographical research areas.
Our students are an integral part of our wider research and teaching community. Individual projects may cut across research areas, for example, in fields such as environmental management. You will also be supported by at least two academic advisors, who may be drawn from more than one of our research groups.

Our MRes and (Sc) MRes Geography courses enable you to conduct in-depth research into a science, technological or social science focused aspect of geography. These courses are ideal for those who wish to achieve a research-based masters-level qualification.
Through dedicated support and guidance from subject-specialist academics, MRes students typically undertake extensive research in human geography (social science, arts and humanities aspects of geography), while (Sc) MRes students focus on a scientific or technological aspect of geography. It is possible to apply to transfer to the Geography PhD during the course of your MRes degree.
You will benefit from being part of a world-leading, research-intensive school, spending time on a topic of your choice while enhancing your research skills and subject expertise.
