Summary

Our research studies individual organisms at a genetic and biochemical level. We also use metagenomics to examine the complex interactions in microbial populations. This is applied to:

  • improve gut health

  • control fermented food production

  • to study the spread of antimicrobial resistance

Current areas of ongoing research:

  • Rapid pathogen detection

  • Metal and antibiotic resistance of bacteria

  • Modelling of resistance spread and drug discovery

  • Foodborne and zoonotic diseases
