Summary
Inclusion and equity are global priorities in education according to the United Nations. This programme considers learner diversity (e.g. disability) and encourages practitioners to critically engage with questions such as: Which learners are disadvantaged or excluded in our education systems? How can we develop socially just practices, policies and research, that support the access, participation and achievement of all learners?
This programme has been developed to encourage practitioners to develop and deepen their knowledge and experience in the area of inclusive education by critically engaging with research, policy and practice.
This programme has been developed to encourage practitioners to develop and deepen their knowledge and experience in the area of inclusive education by critically engaging with research, policy and practice. * Our courses will support learners to critically engage with the concepts of Special and Inclusive Education, Additional Support for Learning (ASL), Special Educational Needs (SEN) with a view to develop practitioners who are committed to the development of equitable and socially just education contexts.
* Our research-informed courses cover topics such as disability, autism, behavior, labelling, gifted and talented, dyslexia, inclusive pedagogy, curriculum, Universal Design for Learning, equity and educational disadvantage.
* The learning processes are intended to assisting practitioners to gain confidence in their ability to create positive, inclusive environments for learners in current, rapidly changing educational contexts.
* The MEd/ PGDip/ PGCert in Inclusive Education: Research, Policy and Practice has been designed to meet the needs of national and international practitioners who can complete their degrees as full-time or part-time students.
* You can tailor research projects to provide the maximum relevance and benefit to your interests and work.
Courses are delivered through a combination of lecture and seminar sessions which encourage practitioners to reflect on their experiences and to critically engage with theory, research, policy and practice. The diverse student population (home and international students who are class teachers from early years to secondary level, special education professionals, head teachers, education administrators, Higher Education lecturers) creates rich learning environments where we aim to create an inclusive ethos, in which collaboration, peer and active learning play a key role.
Full-time students are expected to complete their degree (180 credits) in 1 year and to select the day courses (SM01).
Part-time students can be enrolled in 3 different routes (which can build on one another):
* **PgCert**: 60 credits, 12 months (1 year)
* **PgDip**: 120 credits, 24 months (2 years)
* **MEd**: 180 credits, up to 60 months (5 years)

The programme runs in different modalities, it is important that you select the option that is most appropriate for your situation (SM01 = day, SM02 = evening, SM03 = distance). All course codes should be added:

The programme will support your career development as an inclusive practitioner. It will support class teachers from the early years to the secondary level, special education professionals, head teachers and other professionals in educational leadership roles, education administrators, Higher Education lecturers and researchers in their professional development with regards to policy, research and practice in the field of inclusive education.

This programme addresses contemporary issues in inclusion/special education. If you are a policy maker, educator or teacher involved in inclusive education/special education at pre-school, school or tertiary level, this programme is designed to promote your understanding of the issues and practices relevant to this area.
Our research-informed courses will help you to think about practice and policy in the light of current educational thinking and enable you to consider how an inclusive/special education system might operate in schools and other educational institutions.
Our research-informed courses will help you to think about practice and policy in the light of current educational thinking and enable you to consider how an inclusive/special education system might operate in schools and other educational institutions. * You will discuss recent theories related to many of the conditions and labels associated with special educational needs/additional support needs and have the opportunity to develop practice that takes account of these within an inclusive framework. In particular you can specialise in autism, behaviour, gifted and talented, dyslexia, English as an Additional Language and disability.
* You can tailor research projects to provide the maximum relevance and benefit to your interests and work. You will explore how effective learning and teaching can support the *Sustainable Development Goal 4 – to ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning by 2030* *(United Nations)*.
* This programme has continued to attract both national and international students. Consistently rated as excellent by our students, this programme brings together students and researchers with an interest in inclusive/special education. The international community is seeking to develop inclusive, equitable and quality education for all by 2030. This programme offers you the opportunity to consider how this will be achieved. A highlight for both international and Scottish students is the opportunity to work together as they seek to support all learners.
You will take two or three core courses and one optional course. Courses are delivered during the day, evening or at a distance to suit your needs.
