This programme offers a choice between streams in local government; criminal justice; social care and wellbeing; and public management in general; it provides an opportunity for students to develop your understanding of democratic governance and the challenges of improving performance and co-ordinating public services and governmental processes; students reflect on the changing demands affecting public organisations locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, building their knowledge base, leadership skills and self-confidence.

A good 1st degree or an equivalent professional qualification; subject to interview (and sometimes to a special test) candidates without a 1st degree may be admitted; those without the necessary qualifications may register for a Graduate Certificate or Diploma, and then, subject to satisfactory performance, their registration will be upgraded to Postgraduate level (Certificate, Diploma or Master’s); English language requirements may apply for international students.
Modules include: Public management and governance; collaborative strategy; outcomes, performance and resources; dissertation. Optional modules: Collaborative strategy; community governance and leadership; law, regulation and finance of commissioning; public management and leadership; making policy; managing people; oversight and scrutiny; participation and democracy; public services procurement and contracting; strategic commissioning.
