This programme has been introduced to meet the needs of international students; students undertake both research work and taught courses that are relevant to their research topic; the mix of pure, strategic and applied research, often involving interdisciplinary teams spanning physical, biological, chemical, medical and social sciences, provides a dynamic and internationally recognised research environment.
PhD with Integrated Study

A good Honours degree or overseas equivalent; Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) is available; those with non-standard qualifications should contact the University to discuss their application; English language proficiency suitable for this level of study.
Students complete a major independent research project, leading to a 50,000 word PhD thesis (dissertation), which is assessed by an oral viva examination.
Modules include: research methods; causes and effects of air pollution; climate change; air pollution meteorology; air pollution chemistry; air quality management; atmospheric observations; atmospheric composition and physics; theoretical meteorology (atmospheric dynamics); weather forecasting and climate modelling; carbon management.
