Applicants must also consider whether the Department of Security and Crime Science has the relevant expertise available to offer sufficient supervision in their chosen area of research. You will be expected to identify two UCL academics to supervise your research before applying. Ideally you will have contacted them before applying to ensure they are able to support your application. Following consideration of applications at the department's Graduate Research Committee, students may be requested to attend an interview with prospective supervisors (either in person or by telephone). Security and Crime Science PG Cert provides students with a thorough understanding of how science and scientifically-based techniques can deliver immediate and sustainable reductions in crime.
The programme focuses on how to apply science to gain a better understanding of crime problems, develop investigative strategies for preventing them and increase the probability of detecting and arresting offenders.
**Modular (flexible) students - Some postgraduate taught and MRes programmes are available on a modular basis. Modular study lasts between 2 and 5 years. This is different to a part-time study which lasts for a fixed period.**
