Summary

This dynamic course combines the independence of a research degree but with the guidance and insights of a taught masters. You’ll learn different approaches to the study of literature and have the opportunity to study authors, literary movements, themes and critical ideas in depth. You’ll study alongside our team of academics and you’ll become part of our research culture. The dissertation makes the core of this course and this presents you with an opportunity to explore in detail your area of literary interest and you’ll be supported by a supervisor and will take part in one to-one tutorials to develop appropriate study methods and receive feedback on your dissertation drafts.

Whether you wish to take this course as a route to a PhD or as a stand-alone degree, the course structure and its assessments enable you to research a literary interest deeply, organise your ideas effectively, develop your written and oral expression, and to interact in productive ways with your peers.
