Summary

The Hydroinformatics and Water Management (Euro Aquae) MSc applies advanced information and communications technology to the management of water. You will foster a common international technical culture with students from all over the world, drawing upon the resources and expertise of universities across Europe.

The course offers a joint degree between five European universities as a part of the Erasmus + co-operation and mobility programme. Running since 2004, it is one of the most successful courses in this programme and in 2016 it was approved for a third term of funding. The partner universities are: •Newcastle University (UK) •University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis (France) •Brandenburg University of Technology at Cottbus (Germany) •Technical University of Catalonia (Spain) •Warsaw University of Technology (Poland).

You will receive quantitative training in hydrology, hydraulics and modern information communication technology (ICT) within the context of water management.

Delivery:

You will study modules up to a total of 120 European Credits Transfer System (ECTS) credits, including 36 ECTS credits at a partner institution. Lectures and tutorials at partner institutions are taught in English. The course spans four semesters over two years: •semester one - an introduction, bringing you and other students to a common level of ability in key technical areas. Studied at any partner university except Newcastle. •semester two - the acquisition and use of hydroinformatic concepts, methods and tools. Studied at Newcastle •semester three - thematic specialisation including: software engineering and modelling (Cottbus); groundwater management (Warsaw); decision support systems (Catalonia); and urban waters management (Nice). Studied at any partner university except Newcastle •semester four - a research development project or professional practice in industry, available at all partner institutions.

Accreditation

The course is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) (comprising ICE, IStructE, CIHT and IHIE), as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for students with an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng Honours degree or Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc Honours degree.

The course is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
