Summary

Course information

Our part-time masters in perioperative medicine supports anaesthetists approaching consultant level to become perioperative specialists, to further develop the practice of consultant anaesthetists or non-anaesthetic medical specialists (including geriatricians, intensivists, and surgeons) who provide perioperative medical care.

Our course focuses on clinically orientated case-based learning.

We teach you via blended learning, through methods such as online sessions, on-campus tutorials, and group work to help you network and share best practice with fellow students.

As well as studying core units, you’ll typically choose one option unit. These may include Quality and Safety in Perioperative Care (QI, human factors and simulation), The Perioperative Specialist (set up pre-operative clinics; Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing; surgical multidisciplinary team care; advanced care plan/end of life care), and Education and Training in Practice, subject to availability.

You’ll complete a dissertation as your final assignment, typically an investigative research project, a systematic review or a contribution to quality improvement in perioperative medicine in your clinical environment.

On our MSc Perioperative Medicine course, you’ll learn from other clinicians working within relevant clinical specialisms across the North West as well as Manchester Met
