Summary
The PGCE Modern Languages programme will support students to consider the pedagogy of Modern Languages in depth. This part of the course aims to develop and integrate subject pedagogy and theory with classroom practice and equip student teachers with the skills necessary to become reflective and effective teachers of Modern Languages.
All Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) courses at Liverpool Hope offer students the opportunity to combine a programme of theory with real world experience. The initial professional development focuses on what underpins the work of an effective and successful teacher, while school placements offer you the opportunity to put theory into practice. School placements will cover the 11-16 age range, along with a KS5 enhancement.
Initial Professional Development (IPD): This part of the programme covers the general, more holistic aspects of becoming a teacher. It is largely lecture-based supported by discussion-based seminars with an assigned professional tutor. IPD develops the student teacher's knowledge and understanding of a range of key issues in education.
Liverpool Hope has a strong tradition of academic excellence and world-leading research, recently achieving Gold status in the government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
*Trainees in Modern Languages with a 2:1 or above are able to apply for a teacher training scholarship of up to £28,000 with the appropriate professional body.
