University of Surrey

At the University of Surrey, we see things differently. Whether you picture yourself in a new career, want to pursue an academic passion, or strive to study somewhere where you can make a real impact, our postgraduate courses can help make your vision a reality. Situated just 34 minutes outside London in the vibrant town of Guildford we welcome over 3,500 postgraduate students each year from all corners of the globe. We are proud to be one of the most culturally diverse universities in the country.

Whether you’re from the UK, the EU or further afield, you'll live, work and study with people from different backgrounds to your own. Our postgraduate student body is made up of individuals from more than 120 different countries, so you'll be part of a vibrant international community that exposes you to brand new ways of thinking.

At Surrey, you’ll start preparing for your future from your first day on campus and will be given endless opportunities to boost your employability, from experiencing life in another country to getting hands-on experience in a professional environment.

Our track record for graduate employability is one of the best in the UK, 97 per cent of our postgraduates in employment (or further study) within 15 months of graduating (Graduate Outcomes Survey 2020).

Caring campus
We do everything we can to make you feel safe, settled and happy during your time at Surrey. Our campus is like a home away from home and you’ll quickly become part of our close-knit campus community.

Our staff always put our students first. No matter what you need, there’s someone at Surrey who can help. We have a dedicated student advice and support hub at the MySurrey Hive, friendly International Student Support teams and a multi-faith chaplaincy.

Student life
Life at university is more than just lectures and coursework, we make sure that your university experience is as varied and fulfilling as possible, providing you with endless opportunities to make the most out of your time with us.

If you’re interested in sport or want to keep active during your time at university, Surrey Sports Park, is home to a wide range of first-class facilities, including an eight-lane Olympic sized swimming pool, 120 station gym and 10m high climbing walls. If you just want to have fun and meet new people our Students’ Union also has a wide range of exciting clubs and societies, and organises unforgettable events to ensure you have the best possible university experience.

Surrey's student accommodation is spread across its three Guildford-based sites and is grouped in friendly communities so that you can make friends, find support and settle into your new home.

The University has more than 6,000 rooms in self-catered housing to suit different budgets, and many of the available rooms have an en-suite bathroom. Students in university accommodation benefit from wi-fi, 24/7 security and are within walking distance to the town centre. Postgraduate students can also opt to live in accommodation independent from the University.

The University of Surrey invests heavily in its facilities. In the last 10 years, it has spent £88 million on improving student accommodation, £36 million on the world-class Surrey Sports Park – which has a £500,000 gym, an indoor climbing centre, a 50m swimming pool and 10 grass pitches – and £16 million on the new Library and Learning Centre, which houses a huge collection of resources and is open 24/7 during term time. Most recently, the University has invested £6 million in the new School of Health Sciences facilities and developed two new student spaces, MySurrey Hive and MySurrey Nest.

The University of Surrey is committed to making sure that it offers support to students who might need it, so there are a host of bursaries and scholarships available from both the University and external providers.

To help with some of the course costs, we’ll be providing postgraduate students with free, digital copies of essential textbooks. This is part of our commitment to making university more accessible, enabling you to learn in a more digital environment.

As a postgraduate research student at Surrey, you'll be a part of work that's changing lives, with access to modern facilities and the chance to experience leading labs in the UK and overseas. You'll also work alongside scientists from the University and industries around the world.
