Queen's University Belfast
Queen's University Belfast, ranked in the top 200 in the world (QS World University Rankings 2026) is based in Belfast, at the heart of Northern Ireland.
Founded in 1845 as Queen's College Belfast it became an independent university in 1908 and is the ninth oldest university in the UK. Today, Queen’s University Belfast is a member of the Russell Group, combining excellence in research and education with a student-centred ethos.
Queen’s is ranked 6th in the world for international outlook (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025) and 13th in the UK for research intensity (Complete University Guide 2026), with 88% of research submitted by Queen’s being assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021).
The University has created four flagship Global Research Institutes which bring leading academics together to tackle some of the greatest challenges of our time in the areas of: Global Peace, Security and Justice; Cyber Security; Health Sciences; and Food Safety.
We are globally connected and have partnerships all over the world, including with Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University and Stanford University. We launched a joint College, China Queen’s College (CQC), with China Medical University (CMU) and have an academic partnership with Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Dubai.
Queen’s is one of the UK’s leading institutions for Research Commercialisation and is ranked 2nd in the UK for entrepreneurial impact (i2i University Spinout Ranking 2024).
External recognition includes the award of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize on seven occasions. The University has also been honoured by Northern Ireland’s first Regius Professorship, awarded by Her Majesty the Queen's for excellence in electronics and computer engineering.
