Manchester Metropolitan University
Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met) is a historic and internationally recognised institution that dates back to 1824, known for the quality of its teaching and world leading research. The University has been named Modern University of the Year (The Times Good University Guide 2026).

Studying at Manchester Met
Students are able to choose from a wide range of postgraduate courses across a variety of subject areas. There are impressive facilities such as lecture theatres, modernised seminar rooms, and study zones fitted with the latest technology and specialist equipment, as well as a library that is accessible 24/7 throughout the academic year.
Since 2015, we have invested over £400 million in award-winning facilities to help you reach your potential. These include the Grosvenor East building for Arts and Humanities, the School of Digital Arts, the Institute of Sport, and the Dalton building for Science and Engineering. We are also developing a new library and transforming outdoor spaces across campus.
Research
Manchester Met conducts research in fields that are actively shaping the world, both now and in the future. 90% of the University’s research impact is ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ (REF2021), which highlights the quality of research being conducted at the University. Manchester Metropolitan is ranked in the top ten for the power of its research in four subjects: Art and Design (2nd), Sport and Exercise Science (6th), English Language and Literature (8th), and Education (9th).

Living in Manchester
The University’s campus is located in the city centre, meaning it is close to the many world-renowned music, sports and cultural venues that Manchester has to offer - as well as a range of cuisines from global influences.
Manchester is one of the UK’s best cities to live in and has been ranked as the fourth best student city in the country (QS Best Student Cities 2026). Manchester is a city full of life, culture and entertainment with something for everyone to enjoy. It has one of the largest student populations in Europe – home to 100,000 students, including 27,000 international students.
Supporting future careers
Manchester Met aims to develop students into highly employable and successful individuals, with frequent employability events held – from advice workshops and networking opportunities to guest speakers and career fairs. It also has industry links with a number of global companies, including IBM, Nike, Lloyd’s Banking and many more.
Students are able to benefit from extensive employment support, including careers advice for international students, CV checking, and interview preparation. The support continues even after graduation, as all students also gain lifelong access to a digital careers service.
The courses offered at Manchester Met are developed with employability in mind, ensuring that the skills students gain are relevant to industry and give them what employers really need. Many courses at the University come with the option of a work placement to give students industry experience before they graduate.
Student support
International students are supported throughout their journey to Manchester Met by the University’s knowledgeable and friendly International Office. The team are there to help with queries that students have before leaving their home countries including visa enquiries, accommodation, course enrolment, student finance and much more.
The University also provides support to students once they join the University by helping students access English language classes as well as providing academic and study skills tutors.
The University’s Student Hub offers a comprehensive information service on all student-related matters. It can refer students for specialist support on student living, studying and finance, as well as immigration and welfare. This service can be accessed digitally, by telephone or by visiting Manchester Met’s Student Hubs on campus.
Manchester Met also offers a range of student support services which cover specialist issues including Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, Disability and Inclusion Services and other expert support teams which you can find out more about here.
