Summary
The MSc Data Science and Econometrics will give you an understanding of both econometrics and machine learning approaches for data analysis. It will enhance your ability to implement the econometric methods in the context of big data with the technical and practical skills to analyse the big data in financial markets and economics.
The rate at which we can create data is rapidly accelerating. According to IBM, globally, we currently produce over 2.5 quintillion bytes of data a day. These enormous quantities of data can have a considerable impact on our economy and hold the key to success in areas such as business and marketing.
Why study MSc Data Science and Econometrics - You’ll learn the fundamental skills of Data Science, including the mathematical foundations of statistics and statistical analysis, data mining, programming, data visualisation and machine learning.
-
You’ll combine this with the computational techniques needed to efficiently analyse very large data sets that we usually encounter in economics and finance.
-
You’ll join the next generation of data scientists, graduating with in-demand skills, combining statistical and data analysis with computing.
-
You’ll apply your learning through real-world data examples that are specific to economics, finance, business and management.
-
You’ll analyse trends in economies, make financial predictions, extracting valuable information to inform policy, economic and financial decision-making.
-
This degree is interdisciplinary, and you'll learn from experts in the Department of Computing and the Institute of Management Studies. Many faculty members bring their knowledge from active research and consultancy in a wide range of sectors.
-
We have close links with industry professionals, and regularly invite guest speakers to deliver lectures throughout the year.
-
You’ll put your learning into practice through a final major project focussing on your specialist area of interest. You’ll carry out original analysis on real-world data in the areas of economics, finance or business.
-
You’ll use industry-standard software such as Apache, Hadoop, R and Spark to analyse economic and financial data.
