Why law at Leeds?
One of the leading law schools in the UK, the School of Law at the University of Leeds has been providing high quality legal education since 1899. In that time, we have seen our graduates become prominent judges, politicians, academics and successful legal practitioners. With over 50 dedicated academic staff, we have legal expertise in a diverse range of topics affecting societies across the globe today. Students at Leeds benefit from studying in the fastest growing legal sector in Britain, according to the Financial Times.
As a department we are in the UK top 10 for law (The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020) and 4th in the UK for Criminology (Guardian University Guide 2020). In addition, law has been ranked 3rd in the Russell Group for student satisfaction according to the National Student Survey 2020.
As a masters student you will have access to a range of co-curricular opportunities which will help you further develop your skills and put your knowledge into practice. You will have access to a number of pro bono opportunities such as PrisonLaw, a project where you are able to equip people in prison or with criminal convictions with legal knowledge, helping them to reintegrate into society upon their release.
You will also be able to take advantage of the wealth of careers support on offer. The University and the School’s dedicated Employability Officers can help you find work experience opportunities. They also organise events such as talks by law firms and criminal justice employers, the annual law fair, as well as mock interviews with local law firms.
