Nottingham Trent University: Nottingham Law School

Nottingham Law School

At Nottingham Law School we take great pride in our outstanding and long-established status for excellence in legal education. We are one of the largest university law schools in the UK, with over 100 academic staff and 2,500 students. Our reputation for world-class education and research is a reflection of our high-quality, committed teaching staff. Seven unique research centres and groups provide the focus for our research and contribute to national and international debates in their subject areas. In recognition of the School’s innovative teaching and commitment to social mobility and diversity, we were awarded Legal Education Provider of the Year at the 2016 Solicitors Journal Awards.

A dedicated careers and recruitment service for our professional and postgraduate courses provides students with guidance and assistance in their search for a training contract, pupillage and work experience. Our consistently high graduate employability rate is an indicator of our commitment to producing confident and skilled graduates who are ready to succeed in their chosen careers.

Nottingham Law School hosts a variety of events throughout the academic year. These vary from Conferences to Law Fairs and Guest Lectures. These events provide an insight into a range of topical issues and we have recently held debates on legal education, international and European insolvency regulation, legal perspectives on the victim and mandatory life sentences.

Nottingham Law School has its own multi-award-winning Legal Advice Centre, which was set up in 2006 and relaunched its new premises in 2014. The Centre is a teaching law firm offering pro bono services to the local community and providing students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in practice.

The Legal Advice Centre is the only Free Representation Unit (FRU) outside of London. With supervision from our in-house solicitors, students are able to provide the local community with free representation in employment and social security tribunals. This provides a great experience for our students and helps develop many of the transferable skills desired by employers.
