Our research
The School of Engineering’s internationally renowned research is focused on addresses engineering priorities across the globe.  We work on high profile research projects and collaborate with key members of industry including Airbus, Arup, General Electric, GlaxoSmithKline, Huawei, Mercedes-Benz, NASA, National Grid, Renishaw and Toshiba.

Much of our research is focused around the five strategic areas of advanced manufacturing, civil infrastructure, compound semiconductors and applications, engineering for health and sustainable energy, though our academics also have expertise in a wide variety of additional areas. Within these areas you will find that there is a wealth of topics that would suit a doctoral project.

Our courses
We offer a wide range of taught postgraduate degree programmes across the engineering disciplines which will enable you to specialise in a particular area. Our taught postgraduate degree programmes are carefully designed together with our industrial partners to enable you to upgrade your engineering knowledge and maximise your skills. This makes our taught courses an ideal way of enhancing your employability.


All of our established master’s degree programmes are accredited by the relevant professional institutions, except for Engineering Net Zero MSc which is a specialist course. Our programmes all include a major research element, address sustainability issues and many have a strong industrial element in both the taught content and research projects. Many of our master’s degrees are available either as full-time or part-time courses.
