|Institution||Coventry University View institution profile|
|Department||School of Psychological, Social and Behavioural Sciences|
This course provides an opportunity to enhance your existing knowledge and understanding of psychology and learning how it is applied to real life scenarios within one broad specialist field – educational and child psychology, counselling and clinical psychology or health psychology – depending on your interests or where you see yourself working in the future.
You’ll be taught by a team of dedicated, experienced professional staff, who have worked as professional Psychologists. Members of our Centre for Advances in Behavioural Science, many are actively conducting research across a broad range of areas including: children's literacy and developmental disorders, violence and interpersonal aggression, identity and resilience in communities and organisations, cognition, neuropsychology and psychopharmacology.
You will have the opportunity to engage in an in-depth examination of how psychological principles have been applied to theory and practice, learning how to select, use and report the appropriate specialist psychological methods and research techniques.
If you choose to take the extended version of the course ‘with professional experience’, you will be given an opportunity to apply for an internship (full-time) with a host organisation such as with the Local Education Authority (LEA), local schools or health care provider, or alternatively, within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at the university.
You’ll also have the chance to join our active and vibrant student-led Psychology Society, which arranges a variety of social excursions and activities. Recent destinations have included Sigmund Freud’s house, now the Sigmund Freud Museum, in London.
**Key Course Benefits**
* Excellent facilities, such as eye-tracking and brain monitoring, the latter using an electroencephalogram (EEG).
* Specialist options provide a strong base of knowledge and understanding for those wishing to eventually apply to Doctoral programmes in educational psychology or clinical psychology.
