We regularly update course content to reflect emerging trends and knowledge fields to enrich your technical and transferrable skills, often drawing on our own research findings.

For example, using some of the latest mobile robotic configurations in the V-REP package allow students to work with current up-to-date configurations.

The course offers a programme of study, sharing common semester modules with the MSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. You have an option of either taking ‘Digital Communications’ or ‘Measurement and Sensor Technology’.

If you have studied or have professional experience in electronics or computing, this Master’s course is designed to expand your knowledge of and expertise in technologies associated with embedded microprocessor applications.

A broad range of taught subjects combines the fundamentals of electronics, including VHDL, microprocessor applications and robotics, with specialist knowledge of new developments like the Internet of Things (IoT) and wireless intelligent systems.

We cover advanced architectures and system design for a variety of embedded operating platforms, including field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and microcontrollers. More importantly, we focus on how such operating systems are applied in real-world environments, used to collect date from their environments and transfer this data from people-to-people or people-to-computers, for example.

At Coventry, we believe that studying engineering should be so much more than just learning theory and passing examinations. Instead, we place an emphasis on practical work to provide you with a well-rounded skill set. To strengthen your software development skills, for instance, you will have the opportunity to study multiple programming languages, including VHDL, C, Java, Linux and Matlab.

We have extensive industry links, collaborating with a broad range of commercial partners, such as IBM, Invensys and Jaguar Land Rover to name just a few, which help us to create industry themed research projects. You’ll also have access to cutting-edge IT facilities to support your learning, including proprietary development systems from the likes of Texas and Motorola.
