This course meets the Stage 1 training requirements developed by the British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Division of Health Psychology. It will prepare you to advance to Stage 2 training, which enables you to become a health psychologist.

The course covers the core BPS material, including contexts and perspectives in health psychology, research methods, and ethical, legal and professional practice issues.

You will learn from specialist staff who have a wealth of experience in both teaching and health psychology research.

Our psychology research facilities include state-of-the-art brain imaging electroencephalogram (EEG), eye tracking equipment and a range of experiment and research software. We provide access and a high standard of support for use of these facilities.

This course will give you a complete grounding in the theory, themes, professional issues and practical skills central to Stage 1 Health Psychology training. It is a first step towards Chartered Psychologist status as well as registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Health Psychologist.

The staff team are committed to providing an interesting and exciting learning experience in all areas of your studies. You will learn in small groups for an engaging and focused environment. Guest speakers who work in health psychology will also deliver some sessions.

The course has established links with health organisations where you can gain valuable work experience and carry out research. Some of the opportunities that may be available to you while you study include:

training with Smokefree Ealing to deliver health promotion events in the community training with Pyramid, where you may work on a children's psychosocial intervention.
