Summary

The Master of Research (MRes) in Social Sciences and Humanities (Criminology) is a flexible, interdisciplinary postgraduate programme designed to provide you with advanced theoretical, methodological, and practical research training and prepare you for continuing into a PhD within a social sciences and humanities area of interest or for future career as researcher in a workplace. The programme covers introductory and advanced topics in research methodology and designs, both qualitative and quantitative, and a good grounding in non-primary research design such as systematic review methodology and secondary data research. You will also conduct an independent piece of research as part of a 25,000-30,000 words dissertation, where you will put into practice the methods and theoretical concepts you have been taught.

This Master of Research (MRes) programme is aimed specifically at training researchers, either for progression into academic careers through a PhD programme, or for professional work as researchers. Therefore, upon successful completion of the programme you will have the opportunity to continue developing an academic career by enrolling into a PhD programme. Alternatively, this programme will also give you the knowledge and skills to work to work in an academic, commercial, or industrial career where good research experience is valuable but does not necessarily require a PhD degree, as research assistant or research associate.
