University of Manchester: Molecular Biology

InstitutionUniversity of Manchester
Department Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences
Study type Research

Molecular biology analyses are a key component of many aspects of modern environmental biology study. Molecular biological techniques can enhance understanding in the roles that microorganisms, plants and animals play in the environment. Research within the fields of ecology and evolution is underpinned by molecular biology techniques, such as the use of advanced methodologies in genomics, molecular structure and dynamics, and computational molecular biology. Research projects within the School that utilise molecular biology approaches include analysis of ancient life through molecular fingerprinting, population genetics, plant and soil ecology, geomicrobiology, microbial and animal evolution, and plant and microbial biotechnology.
