Summary
This part-time M-level programme is aimed at individuals from an anatomical or clinical background who have or are seeking a role with educational delivery or educational leadership responsibilities.
The course consists of three M-level anatomy modules, newly developed for this programme. In the first stage, learners will take HARC701 Principles of Human Anatomy and HARC702 Anatomical Education. The former is an exploration of the relationship between structure and function, and the key anatomy involved in different body systems. Alongside this, a dedicated educational module will review modern educational practices in the design and delivery of anatomical curricula. In stage two, knowledge and skills are enhanced and contextualised through HARC703 Clinically Applied Anatomy. This module highlights the clinical relevance and application of anatomy through selected examples. Assessments across all modules will involve the development of a coordinated anatomical and communication skillset. Collectively, the programme aims to equip learners with the knowledge and skills required to design and deliver clinically relevant anatomical learning experiences.
The course is delivered through a blended approach of online and on-campus learning. Each semester consists of 11 online weeks and 1 compulsory on-campus week. Online learning involves a mixture of asynchronous lectures, self-directed study and synchronous online seminars. Synchronous seminars are timetabled with advanced notice at a regular, fixed weekly timeslot. Learning is guided by a mixture of expert anatomists, researchers and clinicians. On-campus weeks take place in the Human Anatomy Resource Centre at the University of Liverpool. Activities involve hands-on practical sessions with human cadaveric tissue, workshops, presentations and assessment.
Why Human Anatomy Resource Centre?
Advancing anatomical knowledge The Human Anatomy Resource Centre (HARC) is a dedicated facility for the teaching of human anatomy. HARC supports the full journey of anatomy students within the Faculty, from those just starting out on undergraduate programmes through to postgraduate and hosting surgical training events for qualified medical practitioners. Teaching consists of a range of approaches from small, practical classes to formal lectures and is constantly adapting to changes in student expectations and is informed by the latest pedagogical research. HARC plays a central role in the Anatomy and Human Biology BSc (Hons) course which ranks within the top 5 UK universities for this subject in the Guardian League table. It is one of only a few degree programmes to offer human dissection to undergraduate students.
Our team Our multidisciplinary team of academics, bequeathal officers and technicians, works together to ensure the smooth running of the facility and an enriching experience for anyone who is involved with HARC, from bequeathals to the creation and set up of teaching sessions.
Our research Research in HARC covers a range of themes from histology through to functional anatomy and biomechanics. The principal goal is to enrich the student experience by providing opportunities for staff development and student projects at the forefront of the anatomical sciences. Our research is presented at national and international conferences, published in high impact journals, and has contributed to the University’s REF submission.
