Summary
The aim of TRANSMED is to provide a solid basis for either academic or non-academic careers in the health sector. TRANSMED graduates are able to discuss the needs of clinical practice with both scientists and clinicians. They can apply up-to-date research methodologies and translational approaches in research design and in practice, and are able to take in consideration the relevant regulatory and ethical aspects. TRANSMED graduates can critically analyse scientific literature and discuss scientific findings to public and stakeholders.
Translational medicine aims to facilitate new therapies and medical procedures by implementing research findings in patient care, and by applying clinical data in research. This requires understanding of both science and medicine. The curriculum utilizes interactive, student-centred educational approaches. Students have direct interactions with both researchers and clinicians, which promotes their interdisciplinary communication skills. Choice of study track can be done during the first study year: options are cancer, regenerative medicine, metabolic disorders, neuroscience and psychobiology, and cross-disciplinary translational medicine.
