Summary
This course consolidates the nationally recognised AMBDA (Maths/Dyscalculia) and ATS qualifications and builds practitioners’ professional practice and research skills.
Course overview
In the first year, this course aims to cover the practical teaching aspect of those with numeracy difficulties and dyscalculia to enable you to act as a ‘Specialist Teacher’ delivering and evaluating multi-sensory, structured and cumulative numeracy programmes allowing you to apply for ATS/APS with the British Dyslexia Association as well as giving a postgraduate certificate in Dyscalculia Research and Practice. In the second year you will extend your knowledge to include the formal assessment of Dyscalculia and other numeracy difficulties to allow you to apply for AMBDA Maths/Dyscalculia with the British Dyslexia Association (BDA). Successful study in the second year also gives a Postgraduate Diploma in Dyscalculia Research and Practice. Both years will be underpinned by theoretical aspects to support a critical understanding of key research and current debate. If you choose to complete the final dissertation year you will be encouraged to complete your own research in dyscalculia or maths difficulties leading to an MA in Dyscalculia Research and Practice.
The course has also been designed to allow those who wish to upgrade their current AMBDA or Practicing Certificate to include the maths element of assessment to attain this in one year.
