Summary

Course overview - Learn about the society, economy, politics and international relations of North Korea with our MA in North Korean Studies.

  • This MA embeds a graduate introduction to social science philosophies and methods in the study of North Korea, one of the least well understood countries on the planet.

  • It is founded on the development of critical analysis of relevant materials whilst also giving you the opportunity to study how North Korea can achieve change and development in the context of fragile states.

  • You’ll develop knowledge and expertise not just on North Korea, but also in the international relations of East Asia, which, although a major force in the world economy, contains some of the globe’s most pressing security problems (the most important of which is, arguably, North Korea’s nuclear programme).

  • This course is designed so that on completion, you’ll have studied relevant subjects necessary for preparation of doctoral research.

Why study with us - The International Institute of Korean Studies (IKSU) has become an official Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) test venue since 2019, and launched the only Korea Corner, funded by Korea Foundation in the UK in April 2019.

  • This course will provide you with a comparative advantage in journalism, diplomacy, international organisations, NGOs, and global business, while developing your knowledge and expertise in many facets of East Asia.

  • The International Institute of Korean Studies (IKSU) at the University of Central Lancashire is offering 10 MA scholarships in North Korean Studies.

  • IKSU was established in 2014 as a multidisciplinary hub of research, teaching and public policy in the study of contemporary Korea. IKSU is based in the School of Humanities, Language and Global Studies, bringing together university wide research expertise on global Korea in the context of development, political economy, anthropological discourse, society and culture, language, and international relations surrounding both Koreas.

  • This scholarship opportunity is funded by the Academy of Korean Studies, Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea (South Korea).
