Summary

During this course you will engage with various aspects of television production and will learn how to integrate your practice and research to better understand how the television industry operates today.  The curriculum will challenge you to create and innovate in field of television production and will require you to collaborate with other students to solve production problems.  The course aims to make you more confident multi-skilled practitioners. The units ‘Producing for Television’ and ‘Television Technical Skills’/’Television Production Technologies’ will enable you to learn, develop, improve and reflect upon a wide range of preproduction and production skills, plus related technical skills (studio and location), which will make you more effective television workers.  The unit ‘Practice-Based Research for Television Production’ will help you plan a practice-based inquiry relevant to your production practice. In utilising a range of methods to document and develop your findings, this unit will enable you to become a more reflective practitioner and develop a deeper understanding of the various modes and conventions of television production. You will develop an awareness of current television business and commissioning models through the unit ‘Television Development’, which will help you with your own production planning and decision-making.  The final unit, ‘Television Project’, offers the opportunity to bring together the various skills developed during the course to create a piece of programming or research which will help underline your learning achievements and act as a bridge into the industry or further study.
