Our research has a high international profile, in keeping with the University's position as a leading research institution in the UK. It covers a wide spectrum of activities, from fundamental physics to technological applications.

Our activities are organised into the following research groups and University Research Centres: Astrophysics Group, Centre for Photonics and Photonic Materials, Nanoscience Group, Theoretical and Computational Physics Group, Centre for Space, Atmospheric and Oceanic Science, and Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.

Postgraduate students are offered a variety of practical training courses and are encouraged to attend international scientific meetings.
