University of Aberdeen: Education Studies (with Scottish Teaching Qualification)
|Institution||University of Aberdeen View institution profile|
|Department||School of Education|
This programme allows experienced teachers qualified elsewhere (or in another sector) to meet the GTCS requirements for full-registration whilst being conditionally employed in a school under the ‘conditional provision registration’ status. Further, teachers in the private sector will (from 2017) need to be GTCS registered and therefore this offers a route to meeting the GTCS requirements for full registration status. This is a distance learning programme.
The aim of the programme is to produce fully qualified teachers in both secondary and primary sectors. The programme will enable FE lecturers and teachers qualified out with Scotland to gain the standard for full registration with the GTCS. This will allow candidates to teach in either primary or secondary sectors, depending on GTCS recognised qualifications.
Candidates should enquire first with their Local Authority before applying.
The award consists of two compulsory courses of 30 credits each at Master’s (level 11) over one academic year starting in September and ending in May. Candidates are simultaneously expected to spend a minimum of 18 weeks (90 days) in a school to achieve the Standard for Full Registration (SFR). In the event of a candidate not being successful in attaining the SFR they can exit with an academic PG Certificate in Educational Studies.

Candidates are required to gain Provisional Conditional Registration from GTCS and support from a local authority for the placement component of the qualification before they can commence the two academic master’s level courses at the University of Aberdeen.
Applicants should provide a copy of their GTCS certificate with their application.
