Arts Practice focuses on strengthening theory and contemporary practice. The programme encourages you to explore, understand and consolidate, where your arts practice is or may be positioned. Through engaging with conceptual and critical thinking, technical understanding and advance approaches, you are encouraged to consider your position within the wider context of the arts world and creative industries.
Joining the exciting community of art practitioners in this region, you will be working alongside art graduates from different disciplines and backgrounds. The interdisciplinary approach reflects the contemporary and historical practice in relation to local, national and international culture and critical theory. The programme provides a balance of advanced practice, theory and technical development through a series of lectures, seminars and cross-disciplinary collaborations.
The programme gives you the opportunity to develop your individual specialist practice, technically honing and developing existing skills, while having access to a resources School wide in multidisciplinary exploration and exchange. Opportunities for engagement with commissions, exhibition, curation, live brief, awards and fund-raisers as you develop your professional profile Throughout the programme, you will develop and refine specialist practice, while building a solid understanding of the creative sector and your place within it.

Entry requirements | Applicants must have either... • Degree at 2:2 and evidence of postgraduate study (PGCE teaching qualification, PG Certificate or PG Diploma) • Degree at 2:1 or above, or is currently studying at Level 6 • Experiential learning in lieu of a degree to be assessed by Course Leader Candidates holding other academic qualifications may also be considered for admission provided that they have substantial relevant professional experience. You must also supply two references to support your application, one should be an academic reference and the other from a creative practitioner. Applicants who meet the entry requirements above will be required to submit a proposal outlining their intentions for MA study. The programme leader and specialist practice-based staff will evaluate the proposal to determine its feasibility in the context of the resources required and the availability of specialist staff to support their chosen area of study. RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) The Northern School of Art has a commitment to widening access to higher education. The University demonstrates this commitment through its Access and Participation Plan, arrangements for transfer and recognition of prior learning.
