Course summary

  • Gain in-depth, Masters-level knowledge and detailed understanding of the principles and practice of human nutrition.

  • Develop sector-specific competence including financial, organisational and applied public health management skills for employment in the nutrition and the public health sector.

  • Enhance your ability to critically analyse current and developing theories.

Nutritionists within the public health sector play an important role in promoting good health and preventing diet-related disease and ill-health in the population. On this course you will study modules that provide you with a solid foundation in nutritional science, human physiology, biochemistry, behaviour change, research skills and public and population nutrition. This course equips recent graduates and health professionals with the knowledge and skills to specialise in public health nutrition.

This course is delivered face-to-face over three semesters - teaching is scheduled based on the length of your course and the academic calendar.

Work placements

You complete the work related learning module to reflect on personal and professional development and produce an action plan. You will be supported to identify areas for personal development in your action plans and identify objectives and activities to undertake which are tailored to your specific needs.

Typical activities include work shadowing/volunteering, attending nutrition and food-related conferences, events and workshops and undertaking online courses. You also produce a reflective portfolio where you map your developmental activities to the core competencies for nutritionists outlined by the Association for Nutrition (AfN).
