Our postgraduate courses in Music Technology provide an opportunity for composers and composer-performers to experiment with and develop expertise in the creative application of established and new music technologies.
Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is an internationally important centre for performance and composition with technology, especially live electronics. An example of its work is the highly acclaimed Integra Live project, an application that makes it easy to use interactive audio processing to create new music.
As you might expect, in this context, our postgraduate courses in Music Technology provide an exciting opportunity for composers and composer-performers to experiment with and develop expertise in the creative application of established and new music technologies.
You'll have full access to our superb £57 million facilities, including our Concert Hall, Recital Hall, seven recording studios, editing and mastering suites, and our black-box performance space known as The Lab. Alongside your focus on Music Technology, our courses provide opportunities for you to develop other skills relevant to a future career in the music profession.

Non-UK students should hold a Bachelor's degree or a similar degree-equivalent diploma, ideally but not necessarily in Music MMus Intensive applicants must be at Level 7 standard in their Principal Study Area and be well-suited to the intensive period of study. If you do not have a degree qualification, we may consider your application if you can demonstrate a significant amount of professional experience and achieve a high scoring audition IELTS overall score of a minimum of 6.0 with no sub-test below 5.5 |

Summary
Postgraduate courses in Music Technology at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire are aimed at the creative music producer that wishes to gain an advanced level understanding of Music Technology practice and theory within a conservatoire environment. Its intention is to create graduates that are flexible and virtuosic in their use of technology as their instrument, equally at home in the studio or a live setting.
With Music Technology as your principal subject area, and unique to Conservatoire music technology programmes, you’ll have weekly one-to-one lessons in various music technology techniques, with exciting opportunities to experiment with and develop expertise in the creative application of established and new music technologies. There are lots of opportunities to collaborate with performers and composers across disciplines. You may also complete your knowledge by auditing undergraduate modules to build further your technical understanding in areas such as studio recording, live recording, editing, synthesis, sampling, programming, coding, mixing, surround sound, media music, mastering and recording project management skills.
Our Music Technology facilities are unsurpassed within the sector. You’ll be taught within our £57 million cutting-edge building, which includes our 150-seat Recital Hall, customised for performance with technology, our flexible black box performance space known as The Lab, seven recording studios fitted with state-of-the-art equipment of the highest specification, plus professional editing and mastering suites.
