What is an MPH?

MPH stands for Masters of Public Health and is a valuable qualification for those in researching or the practice of Public Health. Universities offering online MPH programs

MPH courses are offered by online or distance learning all over the world and many areas of the world have non-profit associations that offer certification to MPH courses to prove that they are offering excellent education opportunities. In Europe, the Agency for Public Health Accreditation guides student looking for online MPH programs and in the United States there is the Association of Schools and Programs in Public Health which offers similar services. There is an excellent selection of MPH programs on offer in the UK. The University of Edinburgh offers an online MPH program as does King's College London, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Queen Mary's University London. In the US, there are online MPH courses at a variety of prestigious universities including New York University, University of California, George Washington University, Harvard University and the University of Florida. MPH course content

Different online MPH programs can have different areas of specialised focus, so it’s important to choose an online MPH that offers the modules that you’re most interested in. For example, the online MPH at Harvard University focuses on Epidemiology in particular and some of the modules include topics such as the Introduction to Data Mining and Risk Prediction and Analytic Methods for Epidemiology. Duration of the course

Most online MPH courses are studied on a part-time basis, as most students are professionals working in Public Health. There are some online MPH courses, for example, the course at Harvard University that include sessions of on-campus study, so it is important to check the requirements and opt for a course that you are able to attend on site if this is deemed a necessary part of the program. The online MPH program at the University of Edinburgh includes an optional summer school, while the online MPH course offered by the Canadian University of Waterloo, has a two-week on-campus session. Because of the variety of ways that different universities can employ to deliver an online MPH program, the time it takes to complete an online MPH program varies, with some courses taking two or three years, and others up to four or even five years with flexible online study.
