University of East London shortlisted for HE Innovate Award

University of East LondonThe University of East London has been shortlisted for an HE Innovate Award for its Mental Wealth and Professional Fitness program.

The HE Innovate Awards recognise "innovative approaches to teaching, learning and student support in higher education" in five categories, and the University of East London has been nominated for the "most innovative approach to developing employability skills" which asked award candidates to demonstrate how they were bridging the gap between education and industry, and developing workforce skills.

Representative from UEL told judges how their Mental Wealth and Professional Fitness program was embedded into every degree, with modules teaching skills such as emotional and cognitive intelligence, digital proficiency, enterprise and entrepreneurship to prepare students for future careers. Their submission said, “Placing careers at the heart of each one of our degrees supports the levelling up agenda and helps prepare our students from the first day of their studies to achieve their career aspirations.”

Director of Careers and Student Enterprise, Cherise Basslian, explains, “We're pleased to have been recognised by the judges for our sector leading work embedding Industry 5.0 skills into every student's tuition. The Mental Wealth program evidences our commitment to supporting students' career journey from day one. This nomination is validation of our progress and recognition of our innovative approach to developing employability skills.”

The nomination comes just a few months after the University won top prize for Best University Employability Strategy at the Target Jobs Awards.
