National Film & Television School celebrates success at Cannes
The National Film and Television School is celebrating success at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The 77th edition of the Festival de Cannes saw graduates from the National Film and Television School (NFTS) premiere their outstanding films at one of the most significant film festivals in the world.
2024 graduation film Bunnyhood was selected for the prestigious La Cinéf category where it has its World Premiere on Thursday 23rd May. The film was one of only 18 selected shorts (14 live action and 4 animations) from among 2,263 submissions from film schools around the world. This film’s success marks the fourth consecutive year of an NFTS student film at La Cinéf.
The team behind Bunnyhood, including producer Ashionye Ogene, writers James Davis and Anna Moore, sound designer Alex Faingold and composer Marcin Mazurek all cheered from the audience as director Mansi Maheshwari took to the stage to accept the third prize. NFTS animations have now won more prizes at La Cinéf than any other film school!
Another NFTS film, To a Land Unknown Directed, co-written and co-produced by Mahdi Fleifel with sound design by Steve Bond, premiered as part of Directors’ Fortnight and received an emotional standing ovation at the screening on Wednesday 22nd May.
Sister Midnight also screened in Directors’ Fortnight with five NFTS graduate credits including cinematography and stop motion animation. The film also received an extended standing ovation for the filmmakers.
In the Un Certain Regard category, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, co-produced by Gabriel Gauchet, won Best Director and Norah (co-producer R Paul Miller) made history by becoming the first Saudi film to screen on the official calendar at the festival. In the same category, Santosh (writer/director Sandhya Suri, co-producer James Bowsher, editing assistant Tomasz Kowalski) also premiered.
Congratulations to all of the NFTS graduates who helped to bring these films to the world stage at Cannes this year.
Find out how you can bring great stories to the screen with a course at the NFTS. Applications are open for September 2024/January 2025 entry.
