UCL launches new MSc in Creativity, Innovation and Leadership
UCL School of Management’s has launched an MSc in Creativity, Innovation and Leadership, designed to give students the skills to lead creative teams, manage complex dynamics and turn diverse perspectives into meaningful outcomes.
New research from UCL School of Management is challenging one of the most common assumptions in creative industries – that citing “creative differences” protects reputations when collaborations break down.
The study reveals the opposite. Rather than shielding individuals, using vague explanations can actually harm future opportunities, limiting access to projects, budgets and professional networks over time.
Drawing on extensive data from the film industry, the research highlights how ambiguity creates a “curiosity gap”, encouraging speculation and shifting perceptions in ways that can negatively impact careers. It also shows that timing and transparency, not vague language, play a far more important role in managing professional relationships and outcomes.
