Swansea University has delivered its best-ever performance in a leading global university ranking by subject for the second year in a row.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 is produced by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds. To compile the rankings, QS assessed academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact, analysing over 16.4 million unique research papers, producing close to 117.8 million citations. 1,597 institutions were ranked across 54 specific subjects, categorised into five broad subject areas.
According to the latest rankings, Swansea University has:

- Improved its rankings in 11 subjects.
- Ranked among the world top 100 in four subjects.
- Retained its ranking in a further seven subjects.
In the QS Rankings, universities are compared across a range of metrics designed to measure their performance against research excellence (research reputation and research citation impact) and employers’ preferences for graduate recruitment.
