Jacobs University is ranked among best young universities in the world
Jacobs University has been highly placed in the 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Ranking, which is for universities that are younger than 50 years.
In these prestigious rankings the international, English-language campus university – which is based in Bremen, Germany – has achieved 26th place out of the 351 participating universities. It was also ranked as one of the five best young universities in Germany.
President of Jacobs University, Professor Dr Michael Hülsmann, says “The ranking results impressively confirm our concept as an international campus university with a focus on research, teaching and innovation. They are an expression of the outstanding commitment, dedication and enthusiasm of all employees at our young university. I would like to express my thanks and respect for this impressive team effort.”
Jacobs University – which was founded in 1999 and began its research and teaching activities in 2001 – scored particularly high for its internationality and the excellence of its teaching. It received the first place in the categories "International outlook" and "Teaching" in Germany, and fourth place in the categories "Research" and "Income from industrial cooperation". Whilst on a worldwide level Jacobs University achieved 11th place in the category "Teaching" and is among the top 25 young universities in the world in the category "Research".
Dean of Jacobs University, Professor Dr Werner Nau, enthuses, “We are very proud in particular of the fact that teaching at Jacobs University has performed so impressively well in the international comparison of young universities.”
The THE Young University Ranking uses 13 different indicators to assess the performance of a university using the same methodology as the THE World University Ranking.
